When you hit play in your timeline to review your video, it can sometimes look a bit "laggy" or "choppy". This could be because you haven't rendered your timeline yet, so how do you do that? Above your timeline, you can see a line that indicates what part of the timeline is rendered. This line is most likely yellow or red for you and we want to make it green. The way you do this is by placing the playhead where you want the rendering to start, click "I" to set an In-point and then place the playhead where you want the rendering to end and click "O" to set an Out-point. After that, you click "ctrl + R" to render the selected area, and then that part will turn green and you can replay it, hopefully without any lag. And if you wanna have more tips on how you make Premiere Pro run more smooth, I have a separate tutorial on that at the End Screen of this video, together with a playlist of all my tutorials. I don't think any tips can really solve the issue. It's a Premiere problem. Every so often, an update for Premiere or Nvidia driver will make it laggy again and its just amatter of changing things until the right combination is found. By the way, constantly rendering every time you make a change is no way to work in an editing software. It should be smooth at all times.
This has helped so much! So frustrating when it was laggy/choppy playback! youtube.com/results?search_query=%23legend #Legend !
realy?
Update to my comment below -- In Pemiere Pro 23.00, I found that if you do not use "in" and "Out" markers, and then select the video clip to be smoothed and choose "Render Selection" from the "Sequence" dropdown menu, it will render that highlighted video selection. When "In" and "Out" markers are placed at the beginning and end of the video clip that option ("Render Selection") remakes dimmed and unavailable.
In Premiere pro 23.00 the "In" and "Out" areas are selected and isolated, but the "Control-R" command does not do anything (I'm on a MacBook Pro). As an alternative, the Sequence dropdown menu's "Render Effects in Work Area" does not seem to improve it whatsoever, and the once "yellow" bar above the video area is red, and does not turn green.

Great tip David! How did you come to the point where you decided that you need to customize the panels in premiere?
