From Incheon's Chinatown to Wolmi-do, I'll be highlighting some landmarks, attractions, and restaurants/cafes that you can go to while you're here on your day trip. Personally, I found the spicy kalguksu absolutely delicious, and had no real complaints about the resto. There was a waiting time but we didn't mind since that usually means it's a popular place. However after searching on Kakao Map reviews it seems some people have complaints about the building being unsanitary and the servers being rude. Maybe they renovated it by the time we came and we happened upon nice servers that day, unfortunately I can't say for sure. But just giving you guys a heads up because I don't want to mislead you in case you do end up having a bad experience! The park is the centerpiece of Songdo IBD's green space plan, inspired by New York City's Central Park.[3] Central Park is a public zone in the center of Korea's first international city, covering 101 acres (41 hectares); the park covers almost 10% of Songdo IBD’s total area.[4] It serves to connect to various civic and cultural destinations by providing a seawater canal that refreshes itself every 24 hours.[5] The park also displays sculpture and artwork such as the swooping neofuturistic metallic architecture of the Tri-Bowl. The park has become popular with families in Songdo and Incheon, and draws day-visitors from the Seoul area. The forested area in the park also fills with daytime tents and campers on weekends. But completely unplanned, I say Shake Shack at the entrance of the airport, and couldn't resist the opportunity to eat a double shack - it was delicious. Robots - Something you'll notice at Seoul Incheon International Airport are the robots that help with information - they seemed to follow us around a little bit. It's pretty cool, and you can talk to them. Lounge - There are plenty of non-lounge lounges, that are fantastic at the airport and great for spending time in, but with a Priority Pass (from a credit card I use), I had access to one of the lounges. Food is overall, pretty good, with Korean food, kimchi, rice, and bulgogi. Thanks. Great to be here. What's new this week? Jung-min, this week I want to talk about travel and tourism. As you know, they were hit hard during the pandemic due to strict border controls and travel restrictions. But with countries around the world scrapping or easing rules, the two industries are coming back to life. The International Civil Aviation Organization forecasts that air passenger demand this year will recover to pre-pandemic levels on most routes by the first quarter. In light of this, for this week, I decided to introduce a one-of-a-kind tour around South Korea that's open to people staying in the country for a short amount of time, even if that's a few hours. With countries around the world easing border controls and travel restrictions, airports are once again packed with excited travelers. South Korea's Incheon International Airport is no exception. Before COVID-19, the airport handled around 2-hundred-thousand passengers every day. The figure dropped to as low as around 2-thousand-5-hundred when the pandemic peaked, but now, it's back up to one-hundred-30-thousand. To cater to the growing demand, Incheon International Airport resumed its signature "transit tour," after a three-year pandemic hiatus. "Transit tours allow layover passengers of Incheon International Airport to experience both modern and traditional Korean culture while they're waiting for their next flight. " And I had a chance to enjoy the world's one-and-only "transit tour." Out of the seven themes, I chose "tradition." The tour bus carrying tourists who had booked beforehand departs from the airport and heads to its first stop, Gyeongbokgung Palace, the first and main palace of the Joseon Dynasty from 1392 to 1910. An hour is enough to enjoy the epic architecture and rich history. "I think it makes the whole way a lot more interesting and fun because other than waiting at the airport, there's not much to do so it's a great way to see the city in a short amount of time and then you get to catch your flight after." The next stop is the nearby Insadong Street. Travelers can take a look around local shops, art galleries, grab a bite to eat at traditional style restaurants, and have a cup of coffee. "I've been to Asia but I've never been to Northern Asia before, so I'm enjoying it. I like the little streets, I like the signs and the shops and stuff. It's unique and exciting." The last stop of the five-hour tour: back to the airport to catch the flight. This is the end of the transit tour. There are more courses beside this one, each with its own theme, from history to shopping, and even a trip to the DMZ. A vacation in Korea is one way to enjoy the country, but now, a layover can be another way to experience some of the popular sights and sounds of Korea. Yoo-jin that tour looks really fun. And the concept "transit tour" is really new and fascinating. It was indeed very interesting. As a person living in Korea, I've been to Gyeongbokgung Palace and Insadong Street numerous times, so they're very familiar for me. But departing from the airport and touring the area with travelers, most of them who've never been to Korea until now, made me feel like I was traveling those places for the first time too. But for those who don't have enough time to go out of the airport, but want to experience a bit of Korean culture,.. are there any other options? There actually are. Incheon International Airport is the first in the world to get five stars from the Airport International Council for facilities, comfort, cleanliness, shopping, food and beverages, staff service, security, and immigration. On the fourth floor of Terminal 1 and 2, there's an area called the "K-Culture Zone" exclusively for transit passengers. Visitors there can experience traditional Korean culture. You can try on traditional clothes, Hanbok and take pictures at a designated photo zone. You can also try out the arrow-throwing game 'Tuho' and make bead bracelets. Hi guys! Last week I was lucky enough to tour a neighborhood in Incheon that has a ton of history. I was invited by Incheon Tourism Organization to learn about Gaehangro - a neighborhood that was really trendy in the 60s/70s and is being revived in the 2020s! There are people who have owned shops there as far back as the 50s but there are also brand new bars and restaurants opening in the old abandoned buildings, making it a really vibrant community. It's easily accessible by Seoul subway and I highly recommend this for a day trip.
