In this tutorial I'm going to show you how you can use Cinema 4D and Sketch and Toon to apply the popular line art styles to your 3D objects. Sketch and Toon is a fairly deep module in C4D but I'll cover all you need to know to be able to achieve this line art style look. I'll show you everything from how to flatly texture your object to how to apply strokes to your objects and even splines. I'll also demonstrate how to use Sketch Style Tags to be able to apply specific styles and sketch materials to individual objects in your scene. Trying something new here and decided to give live streaming a go! I did a few test casts last week and I have to say I really like the format of a live stream and I've been getting great feedback thus far. Live streaming is way less formal than a tutorial and more conversational, especially when people in chat get involved and ask questions and even provide answers in the case of this live stream! The benefit of this live format is it allows viewers a bigger window into my thought process and my problem solving when attempting to model this little bull character. I'm admittedly not a very good modeler, but I learned quite a few things during this modeling exercise and I hope you learn something watching my workflow and my process in modeling this character! What do you think? Should I do more of these? Anything you would change? Let me know how you like these live design streams and if you'd like to see more! In this UPDATED tutorial, I'm going to introduce you to the world of rigging in Cinema 4D by showing you a workflow I use to easily create a simple cartoonish Rubber Hose style arm & leg IK rig. Normal IK rigs bend sharp at the elbow and knees of characters but it's hard to get a smooth bend like a cartoon character. First, I'll start out by introducing you the two types of rigs, FK (Forward Kinematics) and IK (Inverse Kinematics). Then I'll demonstrate how I set up my simple IK rig with a spline and Point IK to rig my hamburger characters arms & legs and connecting them to the body. Finally, I'll wrap up the tutorial by showing you how to use Pose Morph to animate your character. If you're not familiar with Pose Morph, be sure to check out my tutorial (🤍 on how I used it to animate Baymax from Big Hero 6! Want to see more character animation tutorials or more rigging? In this tutorial, I'll be covering how you can animate on your line art made with Cinema 4D's Sketch and Toon. First I'll go over how you can easily animate on your objects using the Mograph Module and effectors. Then I'll demonstrate how you can have the lines generated by Sketch & Toon draw or animate on using it's Draw options. I'll show some of the things you need to know to have full control over how they draw on as well as providing a few tips on how to avoid some common issues that may occur using the Draw options like lines randomly popping on and off during the animation. I cover Sketch Style Tags in this tutorial and you can get more in depth information about them in my Sketch Style Tag tutorial here: 🤍 Watch the full tutorial here: 🤍 Follow me on Twitter: 🤍 Check out my other tutorials at 🤍

In this tutorial I'm going to keep with the nice, 2D illustrative look theme and apply it to create those popular and trendy 2D style ribbon banners with 3D depth by using Cinema 4D. I'll start by showing you how to use C4D's Spline Wrap to create our ribbon along with some handy tips to sell that 2D illustrative look. Then, to get the flat 2D color, we'll use materials created by the Cel Shader & Spline Shader. Finally, I'll show you some creative ways to animate the ribbon to give it some nice organic movement. You'll even learn some Latin! This tutorial has it all, huh? Again when working with Cinema 4D to create 2D vector looking art, be sure when you render to turn up the Anti-Aliasing settings as well as using a sharper Filter than Animation; such as Cubic (Still Image) or Sync so you have nice crisp edges in your animation to sell the 2D style. Here's the tutorial I mention in this video that shows you how to use the Cinema 4D Cel Shader to Create to Apply an Illustrative 2D Style to 3D Objects in Cinema 4D: eyedesyn.com/2014/05/23/creating-an-illustrative-2d-style-with-3d-objects-in-cinema-4d/ And here's how to use the Cinema 4D Spline Shader to Create Text as a Material: eyedesyn.com/2014/03/04/using-the-spline-shader-to-create-text-as-a-material-in-cinema-4d/ Download the scene file and see the full tutorial here: eyedesyn.com/2014/05/23/creating-an-illustrative-2d-style-with-3d-objects-in-cinema-4d/ If you want to learn more about how to use Cinema 4D in your 2D workflow, check out my Mixing 2D & 3D with Cinema 4D & After Effects Lynda.com course where I go over some creative ways to use the tools in C4D for a mainly 2D workflow inside of After Effects: lynda.com/After-Effects-tutorials/Mograph-Techniques-Mixing-2D-3D-After-Effects-CINEMA-4D/137889-2.html Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/eyedesyn Check out my other tutorials at eyedesyn.com Sign up for the Eyedesyn Newsletter here: bit.ly/1e22BRG

In this tutorial we're going to go beyond Cinema 4D's Cel Shader & create some stylized, almost handcrafted looks using another shader in Sketch & Toon called the Art Shader. The Art Shader is really easy to use and allows you to apply interesting texture to your models. First I'll break down a workflow to create textures in Photoshop for use with the Art Shader, then go over how you can use the Colorizer to apply different shades of color to your Art Shader. Then, I'll show you how to create more organic looking Sketch & Toon outlines using different options in the Sketch Materials. Finally, I'll go over how you can apply what 2D animators call a "boiling" type of animated distortion to your models. If you have any questions be sure to post it in the comments section and if you create any fun sketchy things, be sure to share it with me! Thanks for watching! In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how you can apply cartoonish outlines to your 3D objects in Cinema 4D Lite (or any version of Cinema 4D for that matter). Using a model from my new Sketch & Toon Model Pack v.3 (🤍 I'll show you how you can use a combination of Displacement, Luminance, and Fresnel to turn your 3D model into a piece of stylized, sketchy 2D line art. Paired with my previous tutorial on how to Achieve 2D Cel Shading in Cinema 4D Lite (🤍 you can do a pretty convincing job of creating Sketch & Toon 2D line art out of your 3D models! And doing this all with a version of Cinema 4D that comes FREE with your Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Pretty dang cool huh? As always, experimenting with this technique is encouraged to see what sort of interesting compositions you can come up with! Play with the different Fresnel Shader Render modes, I've found success & interesting results with Front and Back, Back Trans, and Front Only. If you have any questions, be sure to post it in the comments section and if you create anything cool using this technique, be sure to share it with me! Thanks for watching! In this tutorial, I'm going to break down my workflow of how I created some cool, stylized, cartoon style 2D splats using just standard tools inside of Cinema 4D. First I'll show you my initial setup and a couple of different ways you can animate the splatter. Next, I'll show you how I got the splatter effect using a combination of tools like Metaball and the Melt Object. Then I'll show you how to tweak the splat setup to get different types of splats by simply adjusting a few parameters. Finally, I'll show you how to animate it with only a couple keyframes to make it look like a realistic splat. If you have any questions, be sure to hit me in the comments below! In this quick tutorial I’ll be covering how you can easily apply a long shadow to your 3D objects in Cinema 4D. The long shadow style has become very popular along with the flat design movement in a lot of web, mobile app design, and it’s made its way into Motion Graphics! Creating these long shadows with 3D objects allows the benefit of the shadow to reflect the actual contour of the 3D object as it moves in 3D space as opposed to creating it in After Effects with a flat object with a bit more work. I also go over using Sketch and Toon’s Quantize shading to make your 3D composition have flat shading and use the specular options to create those nice moving specular highlights that play with the light in your scene. Keeping it all in Cinema 4D has been the overriding theme with my latest tutorials and here’s yet another trick to add to your 2D in C4D bag! If you make something, be sure to share it! Only one way to get better at your craft and that’s to keep on creating!
