Building a kick from the ground up gives you so much more control over the tone and punch, it's also easier than you might think! I go into lots of detail in this video but the basic principle takes only a few minutes to learn. Support My Channel Here 🤍 In this tutorial, I teach you guys how to make a kick drum by utilizing 2 serum instances and processing. If we break down the synthesis of a Kick Drum, it comes down to 2 things; the transient, and the body of the kick. The transient of a kick is created by utilizing a fastpitch envelope on wavetable of choice, from there process and layer with white noise or hats. The body of the kick will always contain the low-end information which will almost always be a sine or triangle wave. Bringing these two together and processing will result in the kick drum. The primary use of these tools is controlling dynamics, but I am going to use them for sound design, mainly transient shaping. A side effect of this exploration is that it allows a deeper understanding of how the devices respond. Often when we use these devices we want their effect to be quite transparent, not so here! What I am doing really exposes the process, almost abusing the effect, distorting the input. Depending on what plugin devices you use you can get different results & character.
